Runescape Characters

In runescape you have a character which you control which is your avatar i.e. a virtual representation of you in the game. You can customize your characters appearance and his or her weapons or armour.

I'm sure you all knew that, but for those not familiar I thought I better mention it :)

Have you seen people advertising their runescape character for sale?
If you check out ebay, you'll most certainly find quite a few people selling them, however this is against the runescape rules and ebay will de-list any auction they find breaking these rules. This is because although the player is the only one who shapes the destiny and development of their characters, they do not own them, runescape does. You can't sell what you don't own, hence the rule.

Some people charge over $700 for their characters, a pretty hefty sum for just an online computer game right? Well you can safely assume that they'll have pretty good stats, and you can check them yourself on the runescape high scores board. "So What?" you might think. Well only 2 kinds of people would purchase a runescape char for that amount of money...

1. Someone who absolutely loves runescape so much they quickly want to experience everything is has to offer, without grinding through levels and quests to get to the good stuff.

2. Someone who and an entrepreneurial mindset and says to himself "Ah, high skills, that means I can make gold in the game faster than most other people, I can sell that gold to other people for real money, nice." Although this is a thriving business, as lots of people do it, it's against the rules and will get the buyer and the seller banned. Obviously the seller doesn't care, which is why he doesn't mind breaking the rules to sell his account.

Did you know that if you buy a runescape character once you have paid and got access to the account, the seller can just use his recovery questions and change the password claiming you hacked them? This means they have the account and you have just lost $700 or whatever you spent on it, ouch.

In short, don't buy runescape accounts as you're gunna get burned whatever happens.
