Runescape-Tip.com first started out as a blog that I used to notify newsletter subscribers of items that I had to sell or items that I wanted to buy.Eventually over time I started to email out some tips that I had learned over the course of the years I'd spent playing runescape (If you want to sign up and start getting tips and updates yourself, the subscription box is on the left). Not only that, but people were emailing me back with tips of their own. I should mention that this newsletter (At the time of writing) is about 30,000 members large now.
It's from these tips that I was writing myself, along with the many tips that other people were sending in that grew Runescape-Tip.com into what it is today, a tightly nit community with a ton of high quality tips.
Over time it got quite impractical for me to keep writing up pages for all the tips that were comming in, so I started the Runescape-Tip.com forum, (Which you should go and check out by the way). It allowed anyone, (Whether they were on my newsletter or not) to sign up to the forum, and ask any questions about runescape that they wanted. Not only that, but it allowed other people to post their own guides and tips without having to wait for me to put it on the website, it's all instant and available for everyone. This reduced my headaches and workload, while at the same time providing a much better experience for the users (That's you).
I've also had to upgrade the server several times to accomedate all the new people comming to the website, costing a bit extra, but that's okay, the more the merrier.
Over time I added other extras, such as runescape statts calculators so you can see how many times you'd have to do something before you could level up, and goal and stats signatures, so you can proudly display your stats and goals to everyone. This generated some backlinks through people using their signatues on their websites and other social networking websites.
What does the future hold for Runescape-Tip.com?
That's a very good question. It's not something that's easy to answer in a single sentence.
I've got quite a few plans and ideas that I'll eventually integrate into the website. I don't want to reveal them all now (As I don't want to spoil any surprises :) )
I will say that the interactive map (Which you can find in the main menu) is more than what it appears. On first glance, it's just a large zoomed in map, right? However, if you look at the top left and bottom left of the screen you can see some boxes. These boxes are going to allow you to do something very special in the future. I wont be specific, but I will tell you that no website on the planet has what I'm getting ready to build, so watch this space.
At the moment I'm working on redesigning the look of the website as I feel that the look at the moment is a little constricting i.e. not really wide enough. I'm also planning on going through every single page to change all of the titles and meta tags (A monster task) so we can see a nice boost in search engine rankings, this = more members, which = more tips to share.
The newsletter is also due for an overhaul. At the moment subscribers get tips for about a month and then an announcement every so often. I don't feel that it's structured as well as it could be. It will probably change from what it is, into a monthly/bi monthly newsletter with updates to what's going on in runescape and how you can take advantage of the new features.
